“I was most satisfied with the quality of the workmanship and the product. The workers were fabulous. I can't say enough good things about them. I have referred to everyone.”

I liked the practical way that he fixed things. He used materials I already had. He fixed things that were in potentially good working order.

The customer management was very good. He explained to us what he was doing. If there were issues he would resolve them as soon as possible. He had very strong customer management skills. There was a lot of attention to detail and the overall finishing was very well done.

I was most satisfied with the professionalism of Jim Manley. There were times when it was hard to get information due to the delays, but when I spoke to him, he was a very clear thinker and explainer.

“Clean work place after they left. Intelligent, thoughtful and friendly workers. Flexible when I changed my mind or added tasks.”

“I liked the appearance of both jobs. I was satisfied with the functionality. The windows work and the siding is excellent. I've gotten a lot of comments on it from friends and neighbors.”

“I would highly recommend him. He is very easy to work with and very easy to talk with. If I would be worried about something I could always get a hold of him and he would look into whatever it was that was my concern. He was very responsive. The product was absolutely outstanding. He did a super, super job. I would definitely recommend him and I already have recommended him since he did the job. They followed up a six months or a year later to check on any settling and to see if anything had settled and to see if there were any cracks. I don't know if everyone does that but that made me feel better just in case something had shifted.”

"I can't believe how well you matched the existing house. No one could tell that we had an addition. I have told many of my friends how closely you worked with me and my husband and it made us both feel secure that we were getting more than what we paid'

"Your idea of adding a window to the stairway originally was a little suspect at first but I couldn't envision what you were trying to do, but after the project was completed, the light coming through that window not only adds an architectural aspect to the stairs but change the light coming into the family room and makes it so much brighter."

Nothing is ever perfect. This concept certainly extends to work on a complex remodeling job. If you expect things to be perfect, well, that's just not realistic. What's so wonderful about working with Manley Enterprises, though, is that Jim Manley and all of his subcontractors stand firmly behind their work. When I had a problem with a leak over two years after my remodel was completed, Jim was right there to investigate. He stayed with the job until a complicated and elusive problem was diagnosed and made sure everything was back in working order. I don't have a lot of experience with different contractors, but I'm guessing that you wouldn't even get a phone call back from a lot of them when problems arise. I've done three remodeling jobs now with Manley Enterprises, and I hope to do a fourth. Jim is my neighbor, my friend, and my contractor of choice. Penelope Mitchell Bethesda

From an uninviting, cluttered storage area with inadequate lighting, dark and inexpensive paneling and tired carpeting to a bright, airy inviting place for a broad variety of family activities in a matter of weeks, thanks to Manley Enterprises! Incorporating family needs and desires into a workable design, Jim and his skilled team transformed our dated basement into a “bright spot” in our home - an attractive asset, an area of closeted and efficient storage and a place for family fun and entertainment. Stripping the room to the walls, the team encountered challenges that required innovation and imagination to achieve the anticipated results. Physical constraints necessitated alterations in planning; evaluation and solutions were accomplished with dispatch, permitting the project to go forward with minimal delay. If a wall had to be repositioned because of a beam, if the proposed number of ceiling lights needed to be increased, or shelving required improved support for planned storage, Jim and his on-site manager, Gustavo Maldonado, were quick to seek our input and then proceed. Subcontractors were scheduled and managed with an eye to the needs of the family. All personnel were pleasant and professional. Home security was maintained. The workplace was left surprisingly clean at the end of the day. Manley Enterprises helped us attain our goal – an attractive and functional reworking of a major portion of our home – and provided us with rooms that exceeded initial expectations. The transformation is exciting, and the process almost a pleasure. It was great working with such a capable group of renovators

Jim to the Rescue! Suddenly we found ourselves living in a rental because my mother had broken her hip, lost her mobility and her independence. Heartsick over giving up our home of 20 years, we were delighted to find a home back in our neighborhood that could accommodate her needs and our family. Only problem: it was a complete “fixer-upper” and we had only 5 months before our lease was up. Could we find a builder who would work with us? We had a limited budget, and needed a trustworthy builder who would not make idle promises just to get our business and then cut quality to stay within budget or worse yet, be uncaring about our timeline. That’s when we found Jim Manley. He guided us hour after hour to make realistic plans and timelines. The rehab went along pretty smoothly until about a week before we were to move in. The painter was priming a wall in a stairwell that had NOT been part of the rehab project. That Friday night we stared in horror. The entire stairwell had rotted from an undetectable leak. It actually moved when touched! Jim was determined not to let that thwart our plans…He gave up his own weekend plans and worked around the clock with his crew rebuilding that wall! That is just the kind of man he is! Three years have passed and we are still singing his praises as we tell the story! We believe that the single best trait of a builder is integrity. We were quite pleased with Manley Enterprises and all the folks that were associated with our home remodel. It was quite a process and while we moved out for a few weeks, we lived mostly around the work. Our contractor and master apprentice were very respectful of our family time and space. When folks give the name of the contractor they had, there are cautions. I always give the name of the contractor I HAVE because if we were ever to have any more work done, Jim will be the first and only call we make!

Jim Manley first worked on our house in Bethesda in 1995. He had a difficult job to do: to repair a sunroom addition made in 1987 by a previous contractor, which included tearing out termite damage. As a result of Mr. Manley's wisdom in advising us and then carrying out the reconstruction, the entire cost was covered by the previous constructor's insurance. Mr. Manley added a front entryway and loft to our home in 1996, supplying the architect as well as anticipating problems and solving them before they occurred. He worked with us to incorporate our own design ideas; we were thrilled with the result. We had additional work done by him in 1999 and 2002 which added a bump out to the dining room plus considerable interior work including windows. He also supervised a number of maintenance projects including a new roof, new drainage fields and painting projects. He also constructed built ins which greatly expanded the usefulness of our old house, which was originally built as a kit. Not only was Mr. Manley professional in his own dealings, his workers were also a pleasure to work with. We would like to add that Mr. Manley often came to the aid of his neighbors on his own time and at his own expense when they had problems and could not find a contractor to do small jobs. He is a man we learned to respect for his honor and to like very much for his kindness. He is a good contractor and a good man.

When three feet of snow melted over night, almost everyone in the neighborhood had flooded basements. When I discovered six inches of water over a bedroom carpet, all I could do was weep. I don't know how Jim learned of this, but he and his son, Sean, arrived out of the blue with his industrial-sized water pump and cleared it out, even removing all the carpet and padding. He just did this out of the kindness of his heart, a gesture I have never forgotten. Recently, I mentioned a project I had and he sent an outstanding worker over and it was done immediately. The next project is much bigger and I'm confident his significant experience, long-time community regard and high quality standards will show.

We called you to finish a job that another contractor started and the biggest mistake we made was not to call you in the first place. "Thank you for rescuing our home"
